Task Stages

  Learning, Teaching and Assessment Principles
Pre-Task: Teachers should hold a class discussion about clothing.
Here are some ideas:
  • Pupils can talk about their favourite clothes and when they wear them. This can include a discussion about appropriate clothing for different occasions.
  • The teacher can bring in some clothes and ask pupils to name them.
  • Pupils can arrange a fashion show with an emphasis on the oral description of the clothes.
  • Pupils interact, share information, exchange ideas and opinions, and work together.
  • Tasks activate and build on pupils' background knowledge.
  • Teachers provide opportunities for peer interaction.
  • Materials are appropriate to the pupils' interests, experiences and knowledge.
Pupils will play a clothing matching game. Pupils will match names of the clothes to pictures of clothes. When they match the words with the picture of the clothes, the clothes turn that colour.
  • Tasks encourage the development of a positive self-image by providing success oriented tasks and positive feedback.
  • Tasks are transparent to the pupils in terms of goals and process.
Other sites that can be used to practice this vocabulary are:
  • Teachers create a language-rich environment, one that provides pupils with ample opportunities to encounter a variety of verbal and visual stimuli and use the language in different contexts and registers.
