Desired Task Outcome Pupils will be able to match an occasion to the traditional clothing for that occasion. They will learn the vocabulary words connected to clothing and occasions that are part of their own culture and other cultures as well.
Task Description The pupils will match the occasions to the special clothing of that occasion. The occasions will include universal, religious and cultural occasions.Then the pupils will do a quiz on the vocabulary of different items of clothing. Advanced pupils may access additional sites on the Internet in order to learn more about clothing in other cultures.

Pre-task: In class, the teacher discusses different situations that may require different clothes and different activities. Pupils should be encouraged to give examples of some situations or occasions where they dress differently. Examples could be weddings, people praying, sports activities, etc.The teacher may also elicit from the pupils comments and stories about other cultures and how they celebrate their special occasions.
  • Pupils build on their prior language and world knowledge.
  • Pupils are motivated to continue finding out about people, cultures, music and literature related to the target language.
Pupils will see a page that is divided into two parts. One part of the page contains pictures of people on different occasions (wedding, prayer, Kaabah, Purim, etc.). However, the people are not wearing the traditional clothing for that occasion. They will see the name of the occasion near the picture.The other part of the page will contain different types of clothing. Pupils have to drag the picture of the clothing and drop it on the appropriate illustration of the situation and/or occasion.
  • Pupils have opportunities to learn by doing.
  • Pupils are not afraid to make errors.
Pupils will see sentences describing the occasions and the clothing in the above pictures. They have to fill in the blank with the correct answer in these sentences
  • Materials enrich pupils' general knowledge.
  • Task is transparent to the pupils in terms of goals and process.
Pupils may learn more about Christian, Islamic and Jewish occasions by accessing appropriate sites on the Internet.
  • Pupils are motivated to continue finding out about people, cultures, music and literature related to the target language.
