Desired Outcome By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to use colour idioms in an online chain story.

Stages for achieving the desired outcome:

  • Pupils will surf to sites to find information about the meaning of colours in different countries.
  • They will then vote for their favourite colour and fill out a form for that colour.
  • Pupils will learn what idioms are and practice matching colours to colour idioms.
  • They will match various idioms to sentences about the characters in Jasmine's story.
  • In the final part of the unit, pupils will practice creative writing with colour idioms. They will choose a part of "Jasmine's story" and then continue it any way they choose or start a new version of the story in a chain story.

Pupils will then choose their favourite colour and fill out a form describing it.
2 Colour Idioms Pupils will understand what colour idioms are.
Pupils will read and learn idioms that use different colours.
2 lessons Pupils will learn about idioms.
Pupils will get to know colour idioms for different colours. They will play an idiom quiz and match colours to their idioms. Advanced pupils can search the Web for colour idioms and submit them to the site.
3 Chain Story Pupils will be able to participate in an online chain story about Jasmine or Aladdin using colour idioms. 2 lessons Pupils will begin by reviewing colour idioms and matching them to characters in Jasmine's story. They will then continue a story about Jasmine (or Aladdin), or add to a continuation written by another pupil. They will be asked to use a colour idiom in their writing.

Assessment

At the end of task 1, pupils will fill in a checklist describing what they have done in the task.
At the end of the unit, pupils will fill in a rubric assessing if they have achieved the unit's desired outcome.
