Desired Outcome By the end of this unit, pupils will be able to describe a typical day in their lives by writing simple diary entries. These diary entries will then be published on the Web and pupils will compare their diary to other pupil's diaries.

Stages for achieving the desired outcome:
  • Pupils will begin by learning how to tell time of whole hours.

  • They will continue by learning simple phrases of typical diary entries, describing Cinderella's day and their day.

  • These entries will be used to complete their own diary entry.

  • Pupils will then compare different diaries and complete a survey about the diaries.
Task Stages

Task Number Task Name Desired Task Outcome Time Needed Task Description
1 Reading The Clock Pupils will recognize number words and be able to tell the time of whole hours. 1 lesson Pupils will learn to tell the time of whole hours using an analog clock. The pupils will match the number words to the numbers on a clock. This will be done by means of a drag and drop activity.
2 Writing Diary Entries Pupils will learn how to write simple diary entries. 1-2 lessons Pupils will learn to match illustrations of simple everyday activities to matching sentences. The matching will be done through a memory game.
3 My Day Pupils will be able to describe how they spend their day with the help of pictures and words. 1-2 lessons Pupils will write a diary page for themselves using a word bank. Pupils will complete a simple form about themselves and then submit their diary to the diary gallery.
4 Diary Survey Pupils will complete a questionnaire about diaries. 2-3 lessons Pupils will choose a diary gallery and complete a questionnaire based on information presented in the diaries. This information will then be submitted to a survey page.

Assessment

At the end of task 3, the pupils will fill in a checklist describing what they have learned.
At the end of the unit, the pupils will complete a rubric assessing their work in the unit.
