Task Stages

Task Stages Learning, Teaching and Assessment Principles
Pre-Task: Pupils will need to understand the concept of a survey, how to complete a survey and how to read the results of a survey. Though challenging, this task can be fun, since it uses the Internet as a tool for learning about what other people do.
  • Pupils develop confidence in their ability to use the target language.
  • Pupils build on prior knowledge and world knowledge.
Pre-Task: Pupils will need to know how to fill in their personal and school details on a form in order to submit their diaries (first name, first letter of last name, school name and place in which they live).
  • Pupils are aware of the learning objectives.
  • Task links to pupils' prior experience.
  • Pupils are not afraid to make errors.
Pupils will be presented with four diaries from the diary gallery. Pupils will answer four yes/no questions (such as "Does this pupil play on the computer?") for each of the four diaries that they read. After submitting their answers fir each diary, they will be presented with the next diary until they have completed all four.
  • Pupils feel they are making progress.
  • Pupils interact, share information, exchange ideas and opinions and work together.
After answering the questions, the pupils will see the survey results. The results will be shown both for the diaries the pupils have surveyed ("My Survey") and for all the diaries in the gallery ("General Survey"). A good classroom activity may be to compare the results of different pupils in the class, and discuss again the concept of the survey and the survey results.
  • Pupils are motivated and are willing to invest the effort and persistence needed for foreign language learning.
  • Pupils use the language as means for gaining information in other areas.
Assessment: Pupils will complete an assessment rubric relating to the entire "Writing a Diary" unit. The pupils can be asked to fill in the rubric by clicking the things they can do. The rubric results can then be submitted and shown on screen, and printed.
  • Pupils are conscious of how they learn and how they can constantly develop better ways of learning the language
  • Pupils analyze and reflect on their learning
