Task Stages

Task Stages Learning, Teaching and Assessment Principles
Pre-Task: The pupils should be acquainted with the character of Juleidah (task 1) and with the structure and conventions of toy stores (tasks 2 and 3). Now they are ready to go to a general online store and look for a wedding gift for Juleidah. The pupils should be asked about the gifts that they would like to get for Juleidah: "As you know, Juleidah is busy preparing for her wedding. She is expecting gifts from friends. What can you get for Juleidah as a gift?"
  • Pupils are aware of the learning objectives.
  • Pupils build on their prior language and world knowledge.
  • Pupils have opportunities to learn by doing.
Pupils will fill in a form to introduce themselves and to write what they think Juleidah would like for her wedding. The aim of this choice is to make the online store search more exciting. However, if the pupils fail to find the gift they set out looking for in the online store, and the teacher thinks that they have a low chance of finding that gift in that particular store, they may be encouraged to change their choice.
  • Task enriches pupils' general knowledge.
  • Pupils take responsibility for their own language learning.
The pupils will visit a site/sites where they can search for the wedding gift. When they find the gift, they will save a picture of it on their computer, and write down its name and its price.
  • Task gives real-world opportunities (or simulations) to apply or adapt new knowledge.
  • Pupils use the language as a means for gaining information in other areas.
Pupils will fill in an online form with their personal details and the description of their gift. They may publish their form on a "wedding gift" gallery.
  • Pupils interact, share information, exchange ideas and opinions and work together.
  • Pupils analyze and reflect on their learning.
