Learning, Teaching and Assessment Principles |
Pre-task:
- In class, you may ask how the cow and the hen felt in the story, "Jack and the Bean Plant".
- Invite some pupils to tell stories about their pets, and explain how they understand what their pets want and feel.
- In class, discuss with pupils ways of communicating without words. Have pupils brainstorm and come up with ideas for understanding messages from pictures, signs, human body language, and animal body language.
- To help prepare pupils for the online task, the teacher should review the following vocabulary:
Animals: parrot, cobra, dog, cat, giraffe, rabbit Feelings and actions: upset, happy, playing, afraid, angry, hungry, friendly.
|
- Pupils build on their prior language and world knowledge.
- Pupils use the language as a means for gaining information in other areas.
|
In the computer room: Pupils will see a picture of an animal making a certain movement. Pupils will have to decide what the animal is saying with its body language. They will see three words that describe what the animal is feeling, and they will be asked to choose the correct one. If they do this correctly, they will be able to read an additional explanation about the animal's behaviour (they can read this explanation in their mother tongue as well). |
- Pupils are aware of the learning objectives.
- Pupils have opportunities to learn by doing.
- Pupils are not afraid to make errors.
|
| After they have learnt about animal body language, pupils may do a simple quiz to test their knowledge. In this quiz, they will need to complete a sentence that describes the animal's feeling. Pupils can use the word bank on the bottom of the page. |
- Pupils feel that they are making progress.
