Learning,
Teaching and Assessment Principles |
Pre-Task:
- Teachers should review the vocabulary learnt in Task 2.
- Teach pupils to search for specific information in a web page by going to the "Edit" menu and clicking "Find", and then entering the keyword they are looking for. For example, pupils will be required to find out what that animal likes to eat. They search for the word "food" or "diet" so as to avoid wading through irrelevant information.
|
- Pupils use language as a means for gaining information in other areas.
- Pupils are motivated and are willing to invest the effort and persistence needed for foreign language learning.
|
| Pupils will browse the Making Waves Endangered Animals site. They will look at pictures and read facts about ten of the endangered animals in the world. |
- Pupils have developed literacy skills in their first language.
- Pupils have maximum exposure to the target language and opportunities for using it.
|
Pupils will choose one of the ten animals and write a short report about it. The report will be based on a simple web search (sites are provided). Pupils will be asked to complete several statements about the animal (e.g. what it eats), and several open questions (such as, "Why is it endangered?" and, "Why do they want help it?"). The reports will be published in the report gallery of the animal in the Making Waves Endangered Animals site. |
- Pupils feel challenged within the range of their possible performance.
- Pupils have opportunities to develop independent reading habits
- Teachers encourage pupils' autonomy.
