Learning,
Teaching and Assessment Principles |
Pre-task:
In class, the teacher can ask pupils about the different ways they express
their feelings. The teacher can discuss with the pupils what they do when
they are happy, sad, shy, etc., or ask them what makes them feel happy,
proud, safe, etc.
The teacher can discuss the relationship between thoughts and feelings.
S/he can tell pupils that thinking about our thoughts helps us better understand
our feelings. Pupils need to know that our thinking is connected to our
feelings. |
- Pupils build on their prior language and world knowledge.
|
| The task
begins by pupils seeing a list of adjectives. They will see pictures that
express these adjectives. They will have to drag an adjective and drop it
next to the right picture. They will then read what the boy or the girl
in the picture thinks and match the feelings to the thoughts. Pupils can
choose to match between the pictures and feelings and/ or between feelings
and thoughts. This depends on the pupils' abilities and learning styles.
|
- Teachers create a supportive environment, one that
allows pupils to take risks, to make errors and experiment with the
language.
- Materials take the pupils' level of cognitive and
linguistic development into account.
|
| After
pupils place all the words and sentences in their places, those words and
sentences that were put in the wrong place will jump back out. If the pupils
put all the words and sentences in the right place, they will get positive
feedback. |
- Pupils have opportunities to learn by doing.
